SkillsUSA is a member of WorldSkills — The International Vocational Training Organization headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This organization sponsors the biennial WorldSkills Competition (WSC).

SkillsUSA fields the team representing the United States at the WorldSkills Competition. The 39th international event was November 14-21, 2007, in Japan's Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

Over four days of competition, more than 850 young people, drawn from over 45 member countries or regions, tested themselves against tough international standards. Forty-seven key skills and technologies were covered. The ultimate prizes are gold, silver and bronze medals representing the best in the world.

Members of the 2007 TeamUSA are as follows:

  • Chance Pollo (Welding) of Glenrock, Wyo. attended Douglas (Wyo.) High School and Eastern Wyoming College in Casper.
  • Phillip Lord (Autobody Repair) of Granger, Ind., attended Elkhart Area Career Center in Granger
  • Elisa Graybill (Hairdressing) of Freeburg, Pa., attended Sun Area Career and Technical Center in New Berlin
  • Chance Hendrix (Car Painting) of Claremore, Okla., attended Northeast Technology Center in Pryor
  • Doug Lavin (Refrigeration) of Westmont, Ill, and David Moreno (Plumbing) of Houston, Tex, from the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.
