SkillsUSA WorldTeam SkillsUSA is a member of WorldSkills — The International Vocational Training Organization headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This organization sponsors the biennial WorldSkills Competition (WSC). Calgary, Canada will host over 1,000 competitors from 51 countries at the 2009 WorldSkills Competition on September 1-7, 2009. WorldSkills is the pinnacle of excellence in skilled trades and technologies training.

According to Jack Dusseldorp, president of WorldSkills International, “WorldSkills Calgary 2009 will be a celebration for skills success and a clarion call to countries everywhere to engage their young people in skilled futures.” SkillsUSA is determining competitors and corporate sponsors for SkillsUSA WorldTeam, formerly known as TeamUSA. To expand American participation in this global competition, SkillsUSA is working to field a team of 16 competitors, the most ever for the United States. To date, SkillsUSA has garnered support in the following trades: auto body repair, auto service, cabinetmaking, car painting, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, cooking, hairdressing, IT/PC networking, mechatronics, mobile robotics, plumbing, printing, refrigeration and welding. A complete team roster will be established from eligible candidates from the 2007 and 2008 SkillsUSA Championships. A major promotional campaign is planned to raise awareness about SkillsUSA WorldTeam.
