SkillsUSA and NASSCO Team Up to Support Outstanding Skilled Trades Students

Published: October 23, 2018
Leesburg, Va. — SkillsUSA is proud to announce that the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) has signed on to become an official sponsor of the organization. NASSCO is committed to setting industry standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure, and to ensure the continued growth of trenchless technologies. “The underground infrastructure industry offers extremely viable and robust career opportunities in the water and wastewater sectors,” said Sheila Joy, NASSCO’s executive director. “Using impressive trenchless technologies that minimize the need to dig up pipes literally has changed the landscape for hiring young workers. Our partnership with SkillsUSA allows us to build awareness of the need to repair our failing underground infrastructure, support the construction segment and present career opportunities to young people who are seeking long-term, meaningful employment in an industry that keeps our communities healthy.” “This amazing sponsorship from NASSCO will help support critical programming at SkillsUSA’s National Leadership and Skills Conference including the SkillsUSA Championships to be held in Louisville, Ky., June 24-28, 2019,” said SkillsUSA’s executive director, Tim Lawrence. “We are so grateful to NASSCO for its generous donation.” Nationwide, career and technical education (CTE) encompasses 94 percent of high-school students in the United States and 13 million college/postsecondary students in high schools, career centers, community and technical colleges, four-year universities and more. CTE and SkillsUSA are working to be a vital solution to our nation’s economic and workforce challenges, such as high-school dropout rates, a weakened economy, global competitiveness and massive layoffs. At a time when opportunity for employment is critical, SkillsUSA and CTE are working to ensure students are equipped with the skills to successfully enter the workforce.

About SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a vital solution to the growing U.S. skills gap. This nonprofit partnership of students, instructors and industry ensures America has the skilled workforce it needs to stay competitive. Founded in 1965 and endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education, the association serves more than 360,000 students and instructors each year in middle schools, high schools and colleges. This diverse talent pipeline covers 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations, the majority STEM-related. More than 600 corporations, trade associations, businesses and labor unions actively support SkillsUSA at the national level. SkillsUSA programs are integrated into career and technical education through a framework of personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics. Local, state and national championships, designed and judged by industry, set relevant standards for career and technical education and provide needed recognition to its students. SkillsUSA also offers technical skill assessments and other workplace credentials. For more information, go to: www.SkillsUSA.org.

About NASSCO

Established in 1976 to represent contractors, the National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) sets standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure through the development of specifications, information sharing through committee participation, and training programs such as PACP®  and ITCP®. Focusing on trenchless, or “no-dig” technologies, NASSCO is also committed to ensuring the continued acceptance of growth of trenchless technologies through education, public relations, conference participation and member ambassador programs. NASSCO, a member-driven organization for professionals across North and South America who are involved in keeping underground sewer systems operating at optimum performance, fosters a non-competitive environment.  NASSCO members include contractors who do the work, engineers who specify technologies, system owners (municipalities and other government organizations) who are responsible for the health of their underground systems, companies that manufacture or supply equipment, supplies or services, and individuals, educational institutions and other organizations with interests that align with NASSCO’s mission.
