Thanks to welding instructor Mark Lynch and his students at Sabin-Schellenberg Professional Technical Center in Milwaukee, Ore., the students of Monument School’s shop class got the chance to learn critical welding skills. The tiny town of Monument is home to a new welding program led by shop teacher Michele Engle. During two days of mentoring, its students learned the safety rules and procedures in the shop, as well as techniques in different kinds of welding including gas metal arc and gas tungsten. The Monument School welding program hopes to continue a successful mentoring program with Lynch and his students. For their efforts, SkillsUSA students at Sabin-Schellenberg earned a national silver medal in the Community Action Project competition.
