Supports Student Leader Programming at the SkillsUSA Conference

Leesburg, Va., May 9, 2023 — The U.S. Army will support SkillsUSA at the 2023 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) in Atlanta, June 19-23 by sponsoring the National House of Delegates and by participating in SkillsUSA TECHSPO, which takes place alongside the SkillsUSA Championships with nearly 200 exhibitors from industry and education. “We thank the U.S. Army for supporting this important delegate programming at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference,” said Chelle Travis, executive director at SkillsUSA. “As a student-led organization, the delegates have a voice and a vision for SkillsUSA. We are rolling up our sleeves every day to support career and technical education in communities across the nation. Just like SkillsUSA, the Army provides youth with countless opportunities to explore their passions, build community and become the best versions of themselves. Working with the Army, we can help more students to become career ready and close the skills gap.” At the 2023 conference, over 400 geographically diverse delegates that hold various leadership roles within their SkillsUSA chapters will come together to govern the affairs of SkillsUSA and make decisions as they conduct business meetings, engage in high-level training and participate in committee meetings to represent the views of their state associations to the National House of Delegates. “At a time when political, economic and social factors are changing how young Americans view the world, the new Army brand illustrates how service in the Army is grounded in passion and purpose,” says Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth. “Serving our nation is a calling, and one that is fundamentally hopeful. We want a new generation of Americans to see the Army as a pathway to the lives and careers they want to achieve.” The delegates will also elect national officers for the 2023-2024 school year to represent them and the SkillsUSA organization as a whole.

About SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is America’s proud champion of the skilled trades. It’s a student-led partnership of education and industry that’s building the skilled workforce our nation depends on with graduates who are career ready, day one. Representing nearly 380,000 career and technical education students and teachers, SkillsUSA chapters thrive in middle schools, high schools and college/postsecondary institutions nationwide. SkillsUSA’s mission empowers students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members. That mission is accomplished through the SkillsUSA Framework of Personal Skills, Workplace Skills and Technical Skills Grounded in Academics, which is integrated into classroom curriculum. Through Framework instruction, students develop the character-shaping leadership skills — teamwork, communication, professionalism and more — that successful careers and lives demand. At the same time, students hone their high-level technical skills against current industry standards in more than 130 skilled trade areas, from 3-D Animation to Welding. The result? Focused, confident and highly skilled graduates who are ready to work, ready to lead and ready to make a difference in our schools, workplaces and communities. A vital solution to the skills gap, where more in-demand skilled trades positions are available than qualified professionals to fill them, SkillsUSA has served over 14 million difference-making members since 1965.
