Lowe’s Provides Resources to SkillsUSA Chapters

Supports Workforce Development Through Educational Materials Leesburg, Va. — SkillsUSA and home improvement retailer Lowe’s have teamed up on a new grant program to support emerging SkillsUSA programs in career and technical education classrooms across the nation. The $100,000 grant from Lowe’s provides 100 eligible chapters with $1,000 worth of educational materials. Through a donation from the Sharon Melton Myers Memorial Fund, SkillsUSA and the McMinn County Vocational Center SkillsUSA Alumni Association are offering a $500 scholarship to a high school SkillsUSA student in memory of Sharon Melton Myers. SkillsUSA Tennessee Colleges Help Protect Health Professionals

SkillsUSA members from Tennessee’s community and technical colleges are playing a major role in manufacturing face shields to protect Tennessee health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using 3D printers, several Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology campuses manufactured headbands to be used for plastic face shields as protection from infectious diseases while working with patients. The project was announced by Governor Bill Lee as part of an effort to find innovative ways to serve Tennesseans during the COVID-19 crisis. Giving to Those Who Need It More

Health care students and instructors from Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC) in Sandwich, Ill., are doing their part to help fight COVID-19 in their community. With a high need for personal protective equipment (PPE) in nearby Will County, IVVC donated over 8,500 masks and more than 1,000 pairs of gloves. Instructors took action by sorting through classroom supplies and donating whatever they didn’t need. IVCC hopes that other schools do the same to help out their local communities and healthcare workers during this crisis. Read More
