Group Visits Atlanta, Host City for the National Leadership and Skills Conference

Leesburg, Va., Oct. 8, 2021 — More than 60 SkillsUSA State Directors and staff gathered in Atlanta Oct. 4–7 for their annual Professional Development and Training Conference. The conference centered on the successful transition of the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) to Atlanta in 2022. SkillsUSA sponsoring partners for the event included CareerSafe, NASSCO and NRCA. The conference kicked off with an opening dinner that celebrated years of service by state directors and recognition of SkillsUSA State Standards of Excellence achievement. SkillsUSA Georgia College/Postsecondary President Gwendolyn Campbell welcomed the group to Atlanta and set the stage for Georgia’s welcoming hospitality. The conference included tours of the Georgia World Congress Center and State Farm Arena where SkillsUSA’s national conference will be held, along with area attractions such as the World of Coke, Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Skyview, Ponce City Market and the Georgia Aquarium. The group enjoyed an Atlanta vendor showcase at the Georgia Aquarium. In addition, the group heard from city representatives covering topics including safety, hotel accommodations, local transportation and accessibility. After getting to know the city and the facilities that will house SkillsUSA’s national conference over two days, the group celebrated with a closing dinner that included greetings from SkillsUSA National High School President Ambuja Sharma, a Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security student in Georgia. Sharma drew on her personal experiences of Atlanta to relay the excitement and anticipation that she has for SkillsUSA members from across the nation coming to national conference next June 20-24, 2022.
